Church Overview

Known until 2024 as Craigiebuckler Parish Church, Aberdeen Springfield Church was desiged by Alexander Marshall MacKenzie in Early English Gothic style. With exterior walls entirely of dressed granite, the building has a nave with a central aisle, a raised chancel with a semi-octagonal apse and a bellcote.

Original interior features include the carved oak pulpit, barrel vaulted ceilings with painted texts, and pitch pine pews. Light oak wall panelling, choir stalls, elders’ seats and the communion table were added during internal alterations in the 1950s. The pipe organ is by Conacher.

The church’s stained glass comprises a suite of twelve windows (1961-1971) by William Wilson, three windows (1885) by Sir Edward Burne-Jones/Morris & Co and two door panels (1995) by Josepha van Furstenberg.

In 2024 the congregation of Craigiebuckler Parish Church merged with that of Ruthrieston West Church, with the new united congregation opting to meet in the Craigiebuckler bulding and changing its name to Aberdeen Springfield Church.
