Church Music Committee
Music enhances the life of Scotland’s sacred buildings, spreading pulse and energy throughout communities. Whether through spirited voices joining in celebration or peaceful sounds for reflection, it is a uniting force across our society. SCT’s Music Sub-Committee aims to encourage and support a wealth of harmonious activity throughout our country’s sacred places, by sharing knowledge and making connections that help our culture flourish.
The Sub-Committee was re-constituted in 2024, widening its interests to include, alongside pipe organs, the variety of choral and instrumental offerings that represent our country’s long and diverse sonic history. Alongside the musical programmes running in active places of worship, we laud performance-led initiatives that create new uses for sacred buildings which have been repurposed and now connect communities in other ways.
Information on the various projects established by the Sub-Committee will be published here in due course, featuring targeted grant support, knowledge exchange initiatives, events, and – crucially – a toolkit to help you enhance the musical life of your own community’s sacred buildings.
